In TFP at least, Orion Pax was given the Matrix in response to Megatron poisoning the planet. It’s mentioned that he was thought to be worthy of the Matrix before the war was ever a thing, so this is not me saying ‘well maybe Primus was just desperate and would have given it to anyone’, but he wasn’t actually given the relic until he went down to try and stop what was happening to Cybertron’s core.

So, what if what the Matrix did to him (i.e. made him battle-ready) was directly effected by what Cybertron needed at the time? This war wasn’t the first one, but it was the most devastating one in the planet’s history since Unicron’s initial attack, and Cybertron was in very real danger of becoming a dead and useless husk.

What if in this Universe, Optimus Prime is like the War Doctor? Given the resolve and ability to do something that was necessary at the time, but not necessarily required of past or future Primes? Would the next Prime (if there is one to follow) also be granted with similar upgrades, or would Primus affect them in a different way, based on what the planet needs now?

tldr; It’s possible that Optimus is different from the other Primes because Primus chose him for a specific purpose, and the Matrix might change future Primes differently than how he was changed.
