“It was in no way intentional. There never should have been such a basic violation of laboratory safety as leaving an opened vat of acid on an unstable table. I did what I could for the others affected.”
He held up his arm. The plating had been burned through but quick action and care had salvaged the machinations beneath.
As Shockwave stops talking everything goes very quiet. Steve simply stares at him. Stares. Face an emotionless mask. Perhaps, in retrospect, he will realize that what he does next is totally illogical. As well as doomed to end badly. But in that moment all he can think about is the lack of all emotion, all remorse, in Shockwave’s voice. And casual, disowning manner he projects while talking about the demise of the best friend Steve had ever known.
The next moment he’s howling, slamming into the one-eyed scientist, trying to tear out his remaining optic while he fills the room with an unearthly shriek.
“YOU KILLED HIM. YOU KILLED MY BEST FRIEND. YOU KILLED HIM! I’LL KILL YOU… I’LL KILL YOU!!!”
The vehicon shoots past his legs and leaps at Shockwave, yelling and clawing like a mech gone insane. Megatron reaches into the purple blur and grabs him by the torso with a powerful servo, pulling him off of the scientist. He deserves to be upset. He deserves some kind of vengeance- but Megatron needs an engineer. He’d lost too many.
The little mech flails in his grasp, still trying to rip at Shockwave, even clawing at the servos restraining him without realizing who it is he’s gouging bright blue-violet scratches into.
"Shockwave, contain the spill.” The warlord easily carries the soldier through the doors and into the hall, mostly vacant by now. He sets him down, attempting to look him in the optics.
“Steve. Know that I will not let this go unanswered, but killing Shockwave will not bring him back.”
