paxbelli:

“Which means that he still thinks he’s you?” Orion asked. “Is this typical of human magic? I’m not very well acquainted with humans…”

He turned toward the drone, shifting into a defensive stance in case it attacked.

The drone onlines his optics and looks exceedingly confused to be caught off-guard in front of not only Lord Megatron, but the new Decepticon Optimus. He quickly stands and salutes, shaking. The warlord looks down at him, appraising.

“It would appear not. If one thing is certain about the humans, it is that their spells never last. They can do the most severe damage and induce the strangest effects, but after some predetermined time, it fades away to nothing without fail.”

paxbelli:

Orion nodded. “I’m just glad you’re back where you’re supposed to be.”

Then he glanced over at the drone. Mistake or not, it had threatened to offline him. “Why haven’t the troops been informed that I’m not who they think I am?”

“Allow me to clarify. They have been of course been informed, otherwise you would meet blaster fire around every corner. But somehow… when I became the soldier, he did not take my place. It was some… imperfect copy of my own spark. Human magic. Strange, to be sure- and frighteningly powerful.”

He gathers himself up to full height. The drone seems to be coming to.

“Perhaps it would be in our best interests to test whether or not it is an ability that we can use to our advantage.”

paxbelli:

That? That was the weirdest slag Orion had seen since… well… Unicron.

He hurried over to Megatron’s side. “Megatronus? Are you alright?”

And then glared accusingly at the Vehicon. A you tried to kill me, you jerk glare.

Megatron takes a moment to get back to his pedes, closing his chest plates. After a moment, he’s aware that he’s switched viewpoints and Orion now worries over him.

“Pay it no mind. It would appear that the drone is not at fault. See to it that he is sent back to the barracks, if in fact he is not offline.

… Your aid has been appreciated, Orion. As well as your faith in me.”

paxbelli:

mighty-megatron:

“I do not care who he is. This is my ship and my army. They will know their mistake in attempting to seize it.” The vehicon soon realized that he could not walk with his usual stride, quickening his pace to keep up with the Decepticon version of his foe.

He would be struck by the oddness of the situation if he were not so eager to confront the usurper.

———

When they arrive at the bridge, Megatron turns to find… none other than Optimus Prime, unharmed and aboard his ship. He smirks.

“Optimus. Come to face your demise head-on, have you?”

He charges his cannon.

“Orion Pax. Not Optimus. I never accepted the Matrix.” He’s had to explain this a lot lately. He gestures to the Decepticon symbol on his shoulder; that, he thinks, should at least be enough to prove that he’s no Autobot leader. “Stand down, Megatronus. We’re here to talk.”

The doppelganger laughs, not even taking notice of the vehicon at his enemy’s side; all that mattered was him. “You never were good at deception, ‘Orion’.” As he takes aim, his frame stiffens and his optics go wide. D-16 seizes up and collapses as well, energy jolting across his frame as the magic moves to correct itself.

The chest plating of both mechs slides open, revealing two sparks of the same odd shade of purple. Megatron’s separates from the spark of the vehicon and leaps back into its rightful chamber, fusing once more with that of the gladiator. The silver mech roars and drops to one knee, but holds himself up as he’s made whole again, becoming familiar once again with moving his own frame.

paxbelli:

mighty-megatron:

He nods in appreciation. “I will accompany you.” Megatron’s diminished size did nothing to hurt his confidence. If the doppleganger turned hostile he would fight back, no matter how small.

“Just don’t attack him,” he said sternly. “For all we know, he might be a completely normal Megatronus from another timeline.” He headed toward the bridge, trusting that the Vehicon would be able to keep up with his pace on his own.

“I do not care who he is. This is my ship and my army. They will know their mistake in attempting to seize it.” The vehicon soon realized that he could not walk with his usual stride, quickening his pace to keep up with the Decepticon version of his foe.

paxbelli:

“To my knowledge, there haven’t been any humans on this ship,” Orion said. Then again, they were tiny; maybe he’d missed them. “And if there were, wouldn’t Soundwave have spotted them and removed them?”

The idea of another Megatronus walking around, a fake one… That was worrisome. “Maybe your spark was switched with the Vehicon’s, and it decided to pose as you rather than report the situation. I could go question it; it would be fairly easy to determine if it’s an imposter.”

He nods in appreciation. “I will accompany you.” Megatron’s diminished size did nothing to hurt his confidence. If the doppleganger turned hostile he would fight back, no matter how small.

paxbelli:

He was silent a moment, speechless. How could a Vehicon…?

Well. A Vehicon couldn’t, of course.

“How did you say you ended up like this, again?” he asked. “And what happened to your normal frame?”

Good, it had worked. He relaxes slightly.

“The mysterious influence some humans seem to possess over us. My spark is my own, but this frame is not. As for that, I just saw it walking to the bridge. If some impostor is running my ship…”

His fists clench, a strange thing with only 3 digits.

paxbelli:

mighty-megatron:

“I do not think. It is fact. I am certain that it is the work of humans… Some seem to have strange powers over us that cannot be explained. They have done similar things before.”

Unbeknownst to him, Soundwave is, in fact, a dragon at the moment. Case and point.

“All right, all right, you know,” Orion said. “But you can’t blame me for being skeptical.” It wouldn’t be right to just reject the Vehicon’s assumptions, though. “Tell me something only Megatron would know?”

… Their universe couldn’t have differed too much.
“…I do not know how it was in your timeline, but I remember a time when I convinced you to go up to the roof of the Hall of Records. A group of seekers flew in the distance and we watched for a while.

…That was where we first began to speak of the future of our world.”

He hadn’t told anyone about that place, though perhaps Soundwave knew. It wasn’t a memory he thought back on fondly anymore, but it could work for his purposes now.

paxbelli:

mighty-megatron:

There had to be a way to get him to recognize the warlord. But with such different backgrounds, it may be difficult to relate..

“Some curse has affected me, I cannot speak my true designation… Ah. This is my ship. The brands you wear refer to your loyalty to me.”

Evidently, he could not refer to himself, but pointing out such things evaded the magic’s grasp.

Orion blinked at the Vehicon. “You think you’re Megatron. But, can’t say his name?”

He was willing to consider the possibility, but that didn’t mean he believed it. By a long shot. He crossed his arms. “Okay, say this is true; how did it happen?”

“I do not think. It is fact. I am certain that it is the work of humans… Some seem to have strange powers over us that cannot be explained. They have done similar things before.”
